Nauvoo is also where Joseph Smith, founder of the Mormon religion, built the first Mormon church. It is no longer there, but a new temple has been built on the original location. This is where the Mormons started their migration to Salt Lake City.
The historic village of Nauvoo has over 60 restored historic dites, live entertainment and shows daily, horse-drawn wagon tours, guided walking tours and hands-on fun and learning.
